The Rabelais 100 Corten Steel Fire Pit by INGRILL offers a 100 x 100 cm square plancha around a central fire. Its Corten steel base unit weathers over time and blends naturally into a garden or terrace.

Designed for practical use

To make handling easier, the fire pit comes in two parts: the bowl and the base unit. A removable shelf lets you divide the base unit in two if you wish, and a bracket fixed to the side lets you hang your utensils.

If you choose the version without castors, your Rabelais fire pit comes with height-adjustable plastic feet to protect your floor and level the fire pit.

Materials

• Plancha and central grill (optional): 10 mm thick S235JR steel. Once hot, the plancha curves inwards so that cooking fat drops into the fire.
• Base unit: 2 mm thick Corten steel.
• Fire bowl: 4 mm thick Corten steel.

Corten steel: a protective patina

Corten steel is a modified steel to which phosphorus, copper, chromium and nickel are added. This composition allows it to rust on the surface but never at the core: it can stay outdoors for several decades without deteriorating. The weathering process takes 2 years:

• 1 to 3 months: the fire pit is covered with a superficial yellow/orange layer of corrosion. Take care with wooden and concrete terraces: during this phase, rust run-off may stain your floor.
• 3 to 6 months: the corrosion layer becomes darker and harder.
• 6 months to 1 year: the colour evens out and the rust layer becomes very solid. There is no more run-off.
• 1 to 2 years: the fire pit reaches its final colour, a more or less dark brown. Every Corten sheet is unique, and so is its colour.
