A plancha fire pit and its Corten steel unit, made in France

The VINCI 80 XL fire pit combines an 80 cm diameter plancha with a large work unit, all in Corten steel. Each fire pit is welded and assembled by hand in France, using thick steel and sturdy joints, to last for generations.

Key features

• 10 mm S235JR steel plancha: once hot, it curves inwards so that cooking fats drip into the fire.
• Central grill of 36 cm (optional), in the same 10 mm steel.
• Practical unit: a removable shelf lets you divide it into two parts, and a holder fixed to the side keeps your utensils to hand.
• Easy handling: the fire pit comes in two parts, the bowl and the unit.
• Version without castors: the fire pit is fitted with height-adjustable plastic feet to protect your floor and level the whole unit.

Corten steel, a material that weathers beautifully

Corten steel is enriched with phosphorus, copper, chromium and nickel. This composition allows it to rust on the surface but never to the core: it can stay outdoors for decades without deteriorating. Its patina develops over about two years:

• 1 to 3 months: a yellow-orange surface layer of rust appears. During this phase, rust run-off may stain wooden or concrete terraces, so protect your floor.
• 3 to 6 months: the rust layer darkens and hardens.
• 6 months to 1 year: the colour evens out, the rust becomes very solid and run-off stops.
• 1 to 2 years: the fire pit reaches its final shade, a more or less dark brown. Every Corten sheet is unique, and so is its colour.
