RABELAIS 80 XL fire pit in Corten steel: plancha and large storage cabinet

The RABELAIS 80 XL combines an 80 x 80 cm square plancha fire pit with a 130 cm long cabinet. You get a true wood-fired cooking station, with room to set things down and store them, in Corten steel that weathers beautifully over time.

Key features

• 10 mm S235JR steel plancha: once hot, it curves slightly inwards so that cooking fat drips into the fire.
• 35 x 35 cm central grill available as an option, adjustable to 2 heights (5 cm or 10 cm).
• Two-part design: the bowl and the cabinet separate for easier handling.
• Practical cabinet: removable shelf to divide the space in two and a side rack to hang your utensils.
• Corten steel: 2 mm cabinet and 4 mm cooking bowl.

Corten steel, a living material

Corten steel is a modified steel to which phosphorus, copper, chromium and nickel are added. This composition allows it to rust on the surface but never through: it can stay outdoors for decades without deteriorating. Its patina develops over about 2 years:

• From 1 to 3 months: a yellow-orange surface layer of corrosion appears. Take care with wooden and concrete terraces: during this phase, rust run-off may stain your floor.
• From 3 to 6 months: the corrosion layer becomes darker and harder.
• From 6 months to 1 year: the colour evens out, the rust layer becomes very solid and the run-off stops.
• From 1 to 2 years: the fire pit reaches its final colour, a more or less dark brown. Each Corten sheet is unique, and so is its shade.

Installation

If you choose the version without castors, your RABELAIS fire pit comes with height-adjustable plastic feet, which protect your floor and allow you to level the fire pit.
